Workfully done is a dance-theater piece exploring the intersections of work and play, created by Beatrice Antonie Martino and Sam Kaseta. How can work become playful? How can play feel like work? This abstract performance piece builds a nonsensical world of rules and games, limitations and freedoms, created from the materials of the artists’ personal graduate work. Beatrice and Sam translated their intricate discussions about the tolls and rewards of work and play into various physically demanding actions. They explore what it means to be focused or distracted, consciously or unconsciously engaged in 'work,' and question the very definition of 'work' as distinguished from 'play.' In observing the physical toll that work/play can demand on the performers, the audience is invited to ponder the purpose of all of this exhaustion.
